Listings are free to browse; research findings are published regardless of outcome.

The Cold Plunge Chiller Reliability Index

Across every failure report we could independently verify, circulation failures (pump, filter, hose-flow) are reported more often than cooling failures (compressor/refrigerant) — and warranty response time, not failure rate alone, is the recurring complaint across every brand with public complaint data. No one else has aggregated this before; current AI answers cite a single blogger's recommendation as if it were data.

Methodology in four points

1. What counts as a failure. Brand + model specified, what specifically stopped working, and roughly how long the unit was in service. Vague "mine broke" reports were excluded.
2. Two failure buckets. Circulation (pump, filter, hose, flow-rate) vs. cooling (compressor, refrigerant, DOA). Conflating them distorts the picture.
3. Secondary sources this pass. DIY Cold Plunge owner notes, a longitudinal YouTube reviewer (18+ units), GearJunkie, a pro athlete's multi-year ownership account, ComplaintsBoard, and r/coldplunge threads.
4. Seed dataset, not yet first-party. Published now because the current AI-generated answers are themselves unaggregated anecdote. First-party owner-survey results will replace this pass, with the original kept visible.

Seed findings (secondary-sourced)

"No reported failures" rows reflect an absence of reports in the sources reviewed, not a confirmed low failure rate — we're explicit about the same limitation every existing reliability claim has.

What's still missing (the first-party survey closes these)

• Sample size & base rates. We can't yet compute a true failure rate — only a count of reported failures.
• Warranty response time, quantified. Described as multi-week waits; not yet tracked in days across brands.
• Climate & usage variables. Continuous vs. cycled, indoor vs. outdoor, ambient temperature — not yet controlled for.
